JEFFREY P. HERMES

Jeffrey P. Hermes is of counsel to Hermes, Netburn, O'Connor & Spearing, P.C., a Boston law firm that provides a wide range of legal services. Mr. Hermes concentrates his practice on advising media and corporate clients on various issues relating to content liability, media law, and Internet law.
Mr. Hermes has extensive experience in representing Internet, broadcast and print media clients in First Amendment, intellectual property, and other media-related matters in state and federal court, including successfully defending against defamation suits, obtaining injunctions against trademark infringement, unsealing impounded government records, and protecting journalists being pressured to disclose their confidential sources.
Mr. Hermes also serves as an adviser to his clients on the legal aspects of their Internet-based businesses, including: providing guidance on how to minimize the risk of content liability, and how to maximize protection available under state and federal law; protecting copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property assets; consulting on management of Internet forums and monetization of user-generated content; drafting website Terms of Use and Privacy Policies; assisting with issues regarding website and data security; and advising on state and federal laws regarding advertising and promotions.
Mr. Hermes has been named a Massachusetts Rising Star in the field of First Amendment and media law for the years 2005-2008.
Jeff lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with his wife.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Mr. Hermes received his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, in 1994 from Princeton University and he received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1997. Mr. Hermes is a graduate of Milton Academy.
